Write it for meA short eulogy is often the most powerful. Two or three minutes — about 300 to 400 words — is plenty when several people are speaking or when you're nervous.
The four-part short eulogy
- Who you are (one sentence)
- One story (the heart of it)
- What it shows about them (two or three sentences)
- Goodbye (one or two sentences)
A complete short example
I'm Michael, and Frank was my neighbor for twenty-two years. The winter my wife was sick, I came home one night to find our driveway shoveled, our trash cans at the curb, and a casserole on the porch with no note. I never asked. I didn't have to. That was Frank — he never waited to be asked, and he never wanted credit. He just showed up. Frank, thank you for showing up for all of us. We'll try to do the same.
